Automobiles The BMW Z4 series consists of rear wheeled vehicles from BMW, the German giant in auto making. The BMW E85 2002 Z4 Roadster is a continuation of a line of cars such as the BMW 507, BMW Z8, BMW, Z1 and the BMW Z3. The BMW Z4 was introduced as a direct replacement of the z3 series of cars. The first generation of the BMW Z4 was introduced in 2002. At that time, both coupe and roadstar forms were being produced. At its debut; the BMW E85 2002 roadstar was the outright winner of the design of the year award. The designer who took plaudits for this wonderful job was Anders Warming, a Dane working with BMW. The Z4 range is powered by some of the most powerful engines. While the coupe was limited to lower capacity two and two and a half liter engines, BMW E85 2002 Z4 Roadster was fitted with high performance three liter capacity M54b30 16 and N52B30 16 engines. Some of the performance figures of this engine includes a 332 brake horsepower at 7900 rpm at a displacement of 3,246/270lb feet torque when revolving at 4,800 rpm and a redline of 8,000rpm. The roadstars output/ liter is 108bhp (79kW; 108PS). The roadstar boasts a weight to power ratio of 10lb/bhp. One of the most noticeable improvements made by BMW in the Z4 road star is speed. For a 2 wheel rear drive vehicle, to accelerate from zero to 102 kmh in just under 5 seconds is no mean feat. Its top speed is equally impressive. Though it has the capability to run faster, BMW electronically limited it to 252 kmh due to safety issues. However, there has been some severe criticism of some features used on the BMW E85 2002 Z4 Roadster. One such feature is the mechano-electrical power assisted steering system. This system was introduced as a fuel saving measure which relieved the engine of a few extra hydraulic loads. While BMW claimed that the system actually provided an enhanced dynamic drive giving a more direct feel to the driver, racing driver and journalist .plained that the device instead gave the vehicle a synthetic, artificial feel. On the other hand, the coupe was equipped with standard hydraulic assistance which I said to have afforded drivers a more direct .municative feel with the vehicle. A few journalists .plained that though the car was amongst smoothest rides, the change in the vehicles rear toe angle that occurred as the cars suspension moved back and forth meant that it was harder to steer the car in roads with a little less quality than conventional racing tracks.
